Powells.com - mainstream titles at low prices

Fictionwise
At the time of writing, Fictionwise has nearly 8000 carefully selected titles. Most of these are available in multiple formats (Mobipocket, Palm Reader, Rocket eBook, Microsoft Reader, PDF, iSilo, Hiebook and Franklin eBookman). They also carry encrypted or secure ebooks in Mobipocket, Microsoft Reader and Palm Reader. Prices are good - there are plenty of special promotions all the time, and if you open a Buywise account you can save even more. Fictionwise is primarily a fiction bookseller, but they are beginning to include non-fiction. They typically add between 60 and 100 new titles every week. Fictionwise stand out as the most reader-friendly ebookstore on the internet. Rating 10/10

eBookAd
eBookAd are currently offline -- hopefully they will be back soon...
eBookAd currently have around 15,000 eBooks in their catalog. Titles are available in Microsoft Reader, Palm Reader, PDF and Hiebook, and they are not encrypted. Once you have bought a book it is stored in your personal bookshelf and can be downloaded in any available format (but note that not all books are available in all formats). The big disadvantage of eBookAd is that there is no selection process, so there are a lot of self-published titles of variable quality, but many of the best independent epublishers sell their books there and some real gems can be found if you look hard enough. Also, there are no bestseller lists and no rating system, so it is difficult to know what to go for. However, if you know what you want, it is a good place to look. Rating 7/10

Powells.com
Powells.com is simply a great traditional bookstore that really cares about books - a rarity these days. It is a bricks and mortar bookstore based in Portland, Oregon. They carry new, used and out of print books, and, of course, eBooks. It is the only bookstore apart from Gemstar themselves to sell ("official") Gemstar format titles. They also have Microsoft Reader, PDF and Palm Reader. All titles are encrypted. Rating 7/10
